HELPFUL GUIDELINES FOR ATHOME LEARNING

GUIDANCE FOR DISTRICT LEADERSHIP:

  • Monitor the well-being of school leadership through regular contact (weekly individual check-ins and leadership meetings)

  • Offer guidance about how to support students’ well-being

  • Prioritize at-home learning focus: review, new content, focus for content (ex. reading and math)

  • Reinforce learning that aligns to the district’s goal(s) for this current reality (through professional development, online learning guidelines, self-care, etc)

GUIDANCE FOR SCHOOL LEADERSHIP:

  • Monitor the wellbeing of the staff through regular contact (weekly individual checkins and staff meetings)

  • During individual checkins with staff (consider 12 per week) monitor the teachers’:

               contact with families and any needs

               instructional planning

               instructional delivery

               personal needs


  • Monitor the needs of families and follow up with communication to families that teachers have been unable to reach

  • Consider how to solicit parent input (establish a parent advisory committee)

  • Once athome learning routines are established, conduct virtual PD for staff (1 per week)

  • Communicate expectations (with leadership team input) for virtual PLC/team meetings and attend as possible

GUIDANCE FOR LEAD TEACHER/COACH:

  • Maintain the connection of teachers, teams, administrators, coach, consultant and other stakeholders through consistent, positive communication. Consider your communication platform and timeframe. Ideas include:                 

    • Highlight celebrations and affirmative messages

  • Offer strategies to support working from home (ex. Establishing a teaching schedule, technology support, work/personal life balance)

  • Support the connection between classroom teacher and Specials teachers

  • Support teachers in planning learning that will maintain academic stability of students and align to the guidance of the district. Include your consultant in these planning meetings.

  • During individual checkins with teachers (consider 12 per week and log your time and activity) checkin on teachers needs with:               

    • instructional delivery

    • use of technology

    • contact with families

    • personal needs

GUIDANCE FOR TEACHERS

  • Maintain connection to your administrator, coach, lead teacher, teammates, and other stakeholders

  • Connect with families regularly to gauge education and personal needs. Inform coach/administrator when unable to make contact.

  • Check-in on well-being of students and families and any needs, technology needs, and learning needs. Inform administrators of any needs for assistance

  • Build a schedule and maintain a log of all virtual meetings (staff meetings, check-ins, team meetings, etc)

  • Stay up to date with district and school communication

  • Plan and deliver learning that will maintain academic stability of students and maintain the guidance of the district. Consider a consistent, predictable format: introduction/virtual connecting, technology overview, content delivery, next steps before next lesson
